Your attorney in the Czech Republic
Legal assistance in the Czech Republic from a Czech attorney
I am your attorney in the Czech Republic. I will communicate with you in a language you understand. I can assist you in civil and administrative disputes, criminal, employment and family matters, as well as in claims for compensation for personal injury, debt recovery and commercial disputes. Feel at home.
About me
My name is Oleksandr Vovchuk. I am a Czech attorney, and I help clients navigate Czech law and resolve legal matters in a language they understand.
I graduated from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. During my law studies, I also spent two semesters at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. I have been gaining practical legal experience since 2013, working in Czech and international law firms.
It is important to me that a client not only receives legal services, but also understands their situation, the available options and the possible consequences of their decisions. I approach every matter with care, responsibility and pragmatism, taking into account the client’s interests and the actual circumstances of the case.
My professional liability as a lawyer is insured up to CZK 7.5 million. Our communications are protected by legal professional privilege and the attorney’s duty of confidentiality.
Services
I provide legal assistance to individuals, entrepreneurs and companies in selected areas of Czech law. Depending on the nature of the matter, I can provide legal advice, review or prepare documents, conduct negotiations with the other party and represent your interests before courts, the police, public prosecutors or administrative authorities.
Civil and administrative disputes
I represent clients in civil and administrative matters before Czech courts and public authorities. I will analyse the legal situation, assess the evidence and procedural risks, prepare the necessary documents and recommend an appropriate course of action.
I also provide assistance before proceedings are commenced, including the preparation of pre-action demands, responses to the other party and negotiations aimed at an amicable settlement.
Criminal law
I defend the rights of suspects and accused persons and represent injured parties in criminal proceedings. I can assist before the first explanation or police interview, as well as at later stages of proceedings before the public prosecutor and the court.
I will explain your procedural position, review the case file, assess the legal risks and prepare an appropriate defence strategy.
Debt recovery and commercial disputes
I assist entrepreneurs, companies and individuals in recovering overdue debts and defending against unfounded claims.
I will analyse contracts, invoices, correspondence and other evidence, prepare a pre-action demand and, where necessary, file a claim or an application for a payment order. Once an enforceable title has been obtained, I can also represent your interests in enforcement proceedings.
I represent clients in commercial disputes, including disputes arising from non-performance of contracts, non-payment, defective performance of works or services, liability for damage and termination of contractual relationships.
I also represent companies, their shareholders and directors in disputes concerning internal company relations, the exercise of directors’ duties and liability for damage.
Employment law
I assist employees and employers in resolving disputes arising from employment relationships. I provide legal assistance in cases involving unlawful dismissal, unpaid wages, severance pay and other payments due to an employee.
I review and prepare employment contracts, termination agreements and other documents. I also pursue claims for compensation for personal injury caused by an accident at work.
Compensation for personal injury
I assist injured persons in obtaining compensation for personal injury caused by a road traffic accident, an accident at work, a criminal offence or another unlawful act.
Legal assistance may include identifying available claims, reviewing documentation, negotiating with an insurer or the responsible party and representation in court.
Where a close person has died as a result of an unlawful act, I can also assess the claims of family members and other close persons.
Family law
Are you considering divorce or unable to agree on child custody, maintenance or the division of matrimonial property?
I will listen carefully, analyse your situation, explain the available options and prepare the necessary documents. If an agreement is possible, I will help put it into the appropriate legal form. If no agreement can be reached, I will represent your interests in court. You will receive the necessary legal support at every stage of the matter.
Prices
Depending on the circumstances, an hourly or fixed fee may be agreed, and in certain matters a fee may be linked to the result.
Hourly fee
CZK 3,000 / hour
The hourly rate is CZK 3,000. The final cost of the services depends on the number of hours spent by the attorney on your matter.
Fixed fee
A fixed fee may be agreed for a specific, clearly defined project where the final scope of work can be estimated more readily, for example an uncontested divorce by mutual agreement without minor children.
Success fee
In certain matters, the fee may be linked to the result achieved or the amount recovered. This may apply, in particular, to personal injury compensation claims or debt recovery matters. Specific terms are always agreed individually before work begins.
Fee under the Czech Bar tariff
If a contractual fee has not been agreed, the fee is determined under Decree No. 177/1996 Coll. of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic on lawyers’ fees and reimbursement of lawyers’ expenses in connection with the provision of legal services (the Czech Bar tariff).
How it works
Stage 1
Initial review of the matter
First, briefly describe your legal situation, the objectives you would like to achieve or the questions you would like answered. You may contact me in writing, by telephone or arrange an in-person meeting.
For an initial assessment of the likely cost or for a consultation, I may ask follow-up questions and request documents needed to understand the factual and legal circumstances. If any deadline applies, please mention it at the outset.
Stage 2
Agreement on the scope of work and fee
After reviewing the essential information, I will propose a possible course of action and define the scope of legal work required at the relevant stage.
Before work begins, we will agree on the specific task, the method of calculating the fee and the amount of any advance payment. If an hourly fee applies, the initial cost estimate will be based on the expected number of hours and the agreed hourly rate.
Stage 3
Provision of legal assistance
Once the terms of engagement have been agreed and the advance payment has been received, I will begin work on your matter.
During the engagement, I will keep you informed of material developments, the need to provide additional documents, approve the wording of an important document or make a decision affecting the further conduct of the matter.
In the media
Below is a selection of interviews, publications and television appearances in which I explain legal issues or comment on current cases.
